Handicap Applied to Scores to allow players of different skill levels to compete in social comps
To encourage new players to enjoy playing social tournaments (none IFPA) using Best Game or Match Play formats where you have a very wide range of player skill levels. I often use a handicapping system which discounts good players scores relative to players who are more beginners.
The benefit is that it means all skills levels feel they need to push themselves.
The % discount would be set when adding a player to the competition and scores which are input are just discounted by the % before allocating tournament points. eg if a player with a Handicap % of 40% enters a score of 100'000 then the score used for establishing the winner would be 60'000.
This obviously does not work for IFPA registered events but really makes tournaments more intense as if the handicaps are appropriate then every game is a tough game which every player can win or lose.
